Sapovaliv aims to 'find some more pounds' to play for Golden Knights
Matyas Sapovaliv knows he will need to gain muscle to become an NHL-ready player. How has the Vegas Golden Knights' 20-year-old center prospect been doing that? “I'm still trying to build some muscle and find some more pounds,” said Sapovaliv, selected by the Golden Knights in the second round (No. 48) of the 2022 NHL Draft. Sapovaliv's appetite for victory is not in question: His 62 points (19 goals, 43 assists) in 54 games last season helped fuel Saginaw of the Ontario Hockey League to the Memorial Cup championship in his third campaign in the OHL.

Golden Knights' 2024 free agency grade
The Vegas Golden Knights were on top of the world just over one calendar year ago, celebrating the first Stanley Cup victory in just the sixth year of their existence since entering the NHL. Essentially, the Golden Knights went from the loveable team that could to the League's new villain, especially due to their creative maneuvering around the salary cap. Franchise cornerstone Jonathan Marchessault, an original “misfit” from the expansion 2017-18 squad, departed after signing a deal with the Nashville Predators, while forward Chandler Stephenson was lured to the Seattle Kraken.

Islanders' Lamoriello Needs to Follow Golden Knights' Ruthless Trade Model
When Lou Lamoriello took over as the New York Islanders general manager (GM) following captain John Tavares' departure, he created an identity on Long Island. While Lamoriello has made two significant betrayals, such as moving on from Barry Trotz as head coach and not protecting Jordan Eberle and Josh Bailey at the Seattle Kraken's Expansion Draft, he has been excruciatingly loyal, arguably to the Islanders' demise.

Bill Shaikin: MLB players with Vegas roots skeptical of A's relocation: 'It's a terrible idea'
The Oakland Athletics are 11 weeks from extinction. The A's fans hate the idea, of course. The elected officials in Nevada, who authorized $380 million in public funding toward a new ballpark in Las Vegas, largely love the idea. Las Vegas has a strong baseball community, and a growing cast of major league players.

A look at free agent signing Nate Schmidt
Looking to hit like they did with Oliver Ekman-Larsson last year, the Florida Panthers took advantage of Winnipeg buying out the final season of defenseman Nate Schmidt's contract by signing the 32-year-old for one year at the bargain sum of $800K. While he won't fill the role of either stylistically, the Panthers needed to add another plug and play veteran to the group after losing Ekman-Larsson to the Toronto Maple Leafs and Brandon Montour to the Utah Hockey Club on the first day of free agency.

Adam Hill: Sorry, fans, but Knights probably right on Jonathan Marchessault
Golden Knights fans, it's completely fine to be all in your feelings this week about the departures of some beloved players. At the same time, it's OK to acknowledge the organization probably made the right decision on most of those contracts, even if it feels like you are betraying people you have come to love cheering for over the past few years. Players who have brought so much joy and happiness to the city and the fan base through the good times and the bad — from raising the Stanley Cup at T-Mobile Arena and throwing one of the best parties the Strip has seen to showing up for community events and charity softball games. Kanye West didn't have contract negotiations in mind when he asked, “How could you be so heartless?” But it's a question fans have been posing to Knights general manager Kelly McCrimmon and company this week.
