Brady Tkachuk's Support for Matthew Shows He's the Perfect Captain for the Ottawa Senators
Our Captain has been a constant source of attention and praise without even having played a single playoff game this season. He has been one of the Flames’ biggest fans and has not shied away from supporting his brother Matthew in the loudest way possible. Brady started catching people’s attention during the first round when the Calgary Flames faced the Dallas Stars.

2022 NHL Draft Profiles: USDP Skaters
Cooley put up 36 points in 24 games in the USHL and 75 points in 51 games in the USDP, which ranked third and first, respectively, in overall points per game. That’s not just with draft-eligible prospects, that’s amongst everyone in those leagues. Cooley is pretty much a scout’s dream, as there aren’t really any weaknesses in his game.

US beats Sweden in overtime at hockey worlds, Canada loses
Adam Gaudette scored in overtime for the United States to beat Sweden 3-2 at the world ice hockey championship on Saturday, while Switzerland bested Canada 6-3 in a game between previously unbeaten teams. Gaudette was involved in all three of the U.S. goals as he scored the first and assisted Nate Schmidt for the second. The win improved the U.S. to 4-1 overall; the lone loss came against host Finland.

Weekly Question: Which Players are Untouchable?
Since the 2021-22 season has ended for the Ottawa Senators, there have been endless discussions about what Pierre Dorion will do in the off-season to try to improve the team. Although I’m not confident in them getting the right player for the right price, I do think Dorion will get somebody, most likely a forward. Perhaps someone like Claude Giroux comes via free agency, but the more likely scenario is a trade.

Ottawa Senators Sterling Predictions Re-Visited, Part 3: The Goalies
As remarkable of a disaster as it was last year, there were signs of improvement that made us somewhat optimistic about improvement this season. And while our expectations were surpassed, the main source of that improvement was a surprise. Will Matt Murray rebound and regain his form from his time in Pittsburgh?

On Front Office Changes, Bergeron, Optimism & More
I also don’t think it’s a coincidence that these two former Senators employees have direct ties to Eugene Melnyk and were likely both in part (or entirely? hired because Melnyk said so. What slowly seems to be taking place is a restructure of the Senators front office, from Hockey Operations to the business side of things, and that should give a sense of optimism that change is afoot.

Senators' 2022 Draft Targets: Joakim Kemell
Looking deeper into their scoring issue, the Senators finished the 2021-22 season with eight players who played at least 10 games with the team and had a positive Corsi for percentage (CF%). Of those eight, five of those were within one point of 50 percent, the bare minimum to be considered having a positive offensive impact. Compare that to the Florida Panthers, who had all but two players cross the 50 percent threshold.

Ottawa Senators Sterling Predictions Revisited, Part 2: Trades
Yesterday we revisited part one of our “Sterling Predictions” that were made back in October, which focused on who was going to lead the Ottawa Senators in scoring. Today we have part two, which asked about trades in the 2021-22 season. Predicting trades is always difficult to do, but the Silver Seven staff tried their best to see into the future: Who will be the first player traded?

Sens Marketing Highlighted, The Maple Leafs Unphased by Loss, Marner Carjacked and More
After the Toronto Maple Leafs’ season ended, Lajoie decided this was a good tweet to put out: This of course didn’t go well with Sens fans and it seems Sens management as well. A few days later Lajoie announced his resignation from the Ottawa Senators after deleting the infamous tweet. Speaking of Ottawa Senators’ marketing, it seemed to have improved within a few hours of Lajoie’s resignation.

Senators at the World Championship: Weekend Recap
In the next game against a much stronger Team Austria, his ice time remained similar but resulted in him being on the ice for a goal against. Gaudette found himself playing a bigger role with Team USA than with his current NHL club. Logging 16:22 of ice time, he was on the ice nearly 25% more than his season average.

Weekly Question: How Do You Feel Heading into the Draft?
First and foremost, I like to think that most folks who read this blog feel some sense of excitement for the upcoming NHL entry draft. If you read our posts then you have a pretty serious level of interest in the Ottawa Senators and the draft ranks among the most interesting non-hockey game events on the NHL calendar. With that in mind, I think certain circumstances around the team may affect our level of excitement for this draft in particular.

Ottawa Senators 2021-22 Report Cards: Coaching & Management
The weakness here is an inability to finish on chances — which checks out when you consider that throughout the entire season, the team lacked the personnel to field two quality power-play units. My guess is that with another strong shot, the system currently in place could become fairly lethal. Another way to evaluate Smith is through his decision-making regarding his lineup, as well as player deployment.
