Palmieri leads Devils past Rangers for first victory of season
Kyle Palmieri scored on the power play and rookie Jack Hughes recorded his first NHL point as the New Jersey Devils picked up their first win of the season with a 5-2 victory Thursday over the New York Rangers in Newark, N.J. The Devils became the last NHL team to win a game this season after starting 0-4-2, with a league-worst minus-16 goal differential entering Thursday. Devils goalie Mackenzie Blackwood made 29 saves in the victory. Palmieri's goal in the second period, his third of the season, gave the Devils their first power-play goal this season.

Avalanche aim to rebound from first loss vs. Panthers
The Colorado Avalanche, who jumped out to a 5-0-0 start and had scored at least three goals in each game, won't be in a good mood when they arrive for Friday's game against the Florida Panthers in Sunrise, Fla. Colorado sustained its first loss on Wednesday night after dropping a 3-2 decision in overtime to the Pittsburgh Penguins. "I don't think we're happy with the outcome or how we played," Avalanche goaltender Philipp Grubauer said.

Carlson confident ahead of Caps' matchup vs. Rangers
The Washington Capitals' leading scorer has 14 points in eight games. Most people would assume that would be Alex Ovechkin. Heading into Friday's home clash with the New York Rangers, Carlson has five multi-point games en route to compiling three goals and 11 assists in eight games.

Fantasy Nuggets Week 3
One thing to keep in mind is their competition so far: Vancouver, Los Angeles, the Islanders, New Jersey, the Rangers, Chicago, and Philadelphia. The fact that the Oilers were at one point up 6-1 and just sitting on that lead was a huge factor in that, but regardless of the circumstances, allowing 52 SOG is far too many and it was a concerning night for the Oilers' defense. Some of what has led to the Oilers' success is also unsustainable.

For Bruins, the real regular season starts tonight against Lightning
BRIGHTON, Mass. - The Bruins did what they set out to at the start of the hockey year, and now the real season gets going. The Bruins will host last year's NHL Presidents' Trophy winners, the Tampa Bay Lightning, on Thursday night and then they will play the Toronto Maple Leafs in a home-and-home series that's sure to stir up the rivalry embers. In strictly technical terms, these next four games simply represent 4.8 percent of the 82-game regular season schedule.
