Capitals potential trade deadline target: The case for and against depth defense
Today's target: Defensemen Nick Jensen (28, Detroit Red Wings), Ben Lovejoy (34, New Jersey Devils) Why it makes sense: Brian MacLellan has added at least one defenseman at the trade deadline every year as the Caps' general manager and considering the team's defensive struggles this year in addition to their home run acquisition of Michal Kempny for cheap last season, this seems a much more likely scenario than paying big for a big-name target. If MacLellan is looking for a low-risk, high reward addition, Jensen seems to fit the bill. He does not add much offensively but is very stout defensively and a strong skater.

NHL roundup: Devils score final 4 goals, top Wild in OT
Nico Hischier scored with 1:41 left in overtime Friday night to cap a big comeback by the New Jersey Devils, who scored the final four goals to stun the Minnesota Wild 5-4 in St. Paul, Minn. The Devils, who trailed 4-1 with fewer than two minutes left in the second period, salvaged the finale of a three-game Western Conference road trip by winning for just the second time in the last seven games (2-4-1). The Wild dominated the overtime before goalie Devan Dubnyk turned the puck over while trying to make a clearing pass behind the Minnesota net. Kyle Palmieri, who picked off the pass, missed an attempt to jam home a shot, but the puck skittered to Hischier, whose shot sailed into the open corner of the net.

Nico Hischier scores in OT as Devils rally to beat Wild 5-4
A goaltender who was winless in his previous 21 decisions outplayed an All-Star down the stretch Friday night. Cory Schneider got his first win in nearly 14 months when Nico Hischier scored 3:19 into overtime, lifting the New Jersey Devils to a wild 5-4 victory over the slumping Minnesota Wild. Hischier, Marcus Johansson and Kyle Palmieri each had a goal and an assist for the Devils, who won for the second time in eight games.

Blue Jackets look to follow Blackhawks' trend
The Blackhawks just bounced back after the end of a winning streak, and now the Blue Jackets will try to do the same from their own streak-breaking loss when Columbus visits Chicago on Saturday night. Columbus had won four consecutive games before suffering a 3-0 blanking at the hands of the New York Islanders on Thursday. While the Islanders arguably have the NHL's best defensive team, Blue Jackets defenseman Seth Jones felt his team's biggest problems were self-inflicted.
