Blackwell's OT goal gives Stars win, ties series with Avalanche 1-1
DALLAS | Colin Blackwell scored 17:46 into overtime and the Dallas Stars beat the Colorado Avalanche 4-3 in Game 2 on Monday night to even up their first-round Western Conference series. Blackwell initially took a shot that ricocheted off teammate Sam Steel and Avs defenseman Samuel Girard in front of the net. “It's been a long season, and not playing the first game, stuff like that, just kind of been in and out of the lineup toward the end here,” Blackwell said. Tyler Seguin, Thomas Harley and Evgenii Dadonov also had goals for Dallas, which avoided losing the first two games at home in its opening-round series for the second year in a row.

Avs captain Gabriel Landeskog may be back for Game 3 after missing nearly 3 years with knee injury
Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog could play in his first NHL game in nearly three years on Wednesday night against the Dallas Stars. Landeskog was the first player to take the ice at morning practice ahead of Game 3. Should Landeskog play, it would be Landeskog's first NHL appearance since June 26, 2022, when he and the Avalanche beat Tampa Bay to capture the Stanley Cup.

Stars coach drops Mikko Rantanen truth bomb ahead of Game 3 vs. Avalanche
The Dallas Stars are going to need star forward Mikko Rantanen to produce if they hope to defeat the Colorado Avalanche in the playoffs for the third time in six years — but that hasn't happened yet. “He's got a lot on his plate,” Stars head coach Pete DeBoer said ahead of Game 3 at Ball Arena on Wednesday night, per NHL.com's Nicholas J. Cotsonika. It's obviously been a long year for Rantanen, who was blindsided by the Avalanche and traded to Carolina mid-season — a place he never planned to sign long-term. After being flipped to Dallas at the trade deadline, and subsequently signing a massive 12-year, $96 million extension, it looks like he's found a permanent home in southern Texas.

The start of the NHL playoffs has been hard-hitting, with just about everyone getting physical
If there was any doubt about what the Washington Capitals were thinking about doing to the Montreal Canadiens in their first-round playoff series, it got erased on the first shift. Sub-6-foot forward Anthony Beauvillier finished a hard check on Alexandre Carrier. Captain Alex Ovechkin followed that up by crushing the other defenseman, Mike Matheson. “Everybody was hitting,” Ovechkin said after scoring the overtime winner Monday night.

Stars Tie Series With Overtime Thriller In Game Two
It is not common to have a must win game so early in a playoff series, let alone in the first round, but for the Dallas Stars on Monday any less than a victory was not satisfactory. The Stars were coming off a disappointing result in Game 1 as they fell 5-1 at home.

Stars Desperately Need to Win Game Two
One season ago, the Dallas Stars went down 0-2 in their first round series to the Vegas Golden Knights but clawed their way back to advance, but the Stars are desperate not to relive that fight again this season against the Colorado Avalanche.

The Dallas Stars have fervent hockey fans ... in Dallas. Why not in Fort Worth?
While the Stars have a passionate fan base, there’s a sense it ends somewhere near Grand Prairie. But the team is making inroads further west.
