Nashville selects Simon Knak 179th overall in round six
With their lone sixth-round pick in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, the Nashville Predators dipped into the overage pool for the first time and selected forward Simon Knak. The 6’1” forward, who wasn’t selected in his first year of eligibility last year, comes from the Portland Winterhawks program of the WHL. In 2019-20, he notched nine goals and 34 points in 49 games.

Nashville selects Jack Matier 124th overall in round four
In the prior year, he recorded just nine assists in 56 games. Matier’s only competitive action this year was at the U18 World Junior Championship, where he notched one assist for Canada in seven games. Unranked on my final draft board, Matier has a ways to go to round out his game, and there’s no question losing this past OHL season was a setback for him.

Nashville selects Anton Olsson 72nd overall in round three
On day two of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, the Nashville Predators made another trade with the Carolina Hurricanes, moving picks 83 and 147 to trade up to 72nd overall. With that pick, Nashville selected defender Anton Olsson. Ranked 51st on my final draft board, Olsson is a 6’0” Swedish defender who appeared in 39 games for Malmö of the SHL this year (on top of seven games at the J20 Nationell level).

This season the 6’0” forward skated in 38 VHL games (Russia’s second-tier league), scoring five goals and 15 points, as well as 15 MHL games (the Russian junior league), scoring four goals and 15 points.
