Washington Capitals hire Peter Laviolette's longtime assistant Kevin McCarthy
Kevin McCarthy joined Peter Laviolette's Washington Capitals coaching staff Wednesday, an expected move continuing the pair's partnership that has lasted for more than 15 years. McCarthy will be in charge of the defensemen under Laviolette, who is keeping the other three assistants in place after replacing fired coach Todd Reirden. The 63-year-old was with Laviolette in his last three stops in Nashville, Philadelphia and Carolina, and they won the Stanley Cup together with the Hurricanes in 2006.

2019-20 Predators Player Report Cards: Mathieu Olivier & Anthony Richard
Anthony Richard: Richard earned just a single game in Nashville this season, much like he did in 2018-19. In that sole appearance, against Tampa Bay, Richard skated just over four minutes but did record two shots on goal. AHL Résumé Olivier: In his second season in Milwaukee, Olivier mildly impressed, improving from four goals and 12 points to ten goals and 19 points.

Monday's Dump & Chase: Return of the Rem
Rem remains a reasonable regular roundabouts (drat, out of r-words that work) up in Milwaukee. Around College Hockey Oh yeah, I’m sure none of these college athletes are going to get into compliance-related issues after they win a Natty in Vegas. Zero chance.

What Nick Bonino can bring to the Wild
Which is why including center Bonino in the deal, with one year remaining on his contract, is so key — just to try it out this year and if it doesn’t work, he’s a pending free agent, so it’s no significant commitment. In terms of the Wild’s cap structure, this trade makes perfect sense. But what about when there’s actually games happening?

What might the new-look Predators look like next season?
But the Predators general manager was married to the idea of adding grit to a team that seriously lacked it. So he signed bottom-of-the-lineup guys who aren't afraid to mix it up, such as Mark Borowiecki, whose 58 penalty minutes last season would have been second on the team. Such as Matt Benning, who blocks shots and hits.

2019-20 Predators Player Report Cards: Ryan Johansen
Ryan Johansen’s usually reliable gameplay was noticeably absent during the 2019-20 season—but the same could be said for nearly every Nashville Predators player this season. It’s not that Johansen was terrible on the ice himself, he just found himself stuck in a rut of not being able to create offense. There are many factors at play to look at when discussing why there was a blockage of offensive production for Johansen.

Preds using grant for girls' hockey, learn-to-skate programs
The Nashville Predators will use a half-million-dollar grant to develop girls' hockey and learn-to-skate programs in Middle Tennessee during the next two years. The girls' hockey program will allow 350 girls to participate in a 15- to 20-week training program led by USA Hockey certified coaches at both Ford Ice Centers, the Predators said in a news release. In addition to a full season of hockey, the funds will be used to host two tournaments free of entry fee.

A look at Predators free agency, trades by the numbers so far
David Poile could opt to save the money left after he spent $10 million in free agency. Or the Predators general manager could spend what is left after saving the team almost $13 million in salary under the league's $81.5 million cap. The Predators still have to sign unrestricted free agents Luke Kunin, who was acquired in the deal that sent Nick Bonino to the Wild, and Rem Pitlick.

2019-20 Predators Player Report Cards: Roman Josi
He carried the team and had an award-winning season (which is the important part, here). So let’s fondly remember the one good thing to come out of a very strange NHL season for Preds fans in just a few short words. I don’t want to spoil the article, but we all know what letter grade Josi will be receiving.
