A crazy decade after his debut, Zemgus Girgensons is thrilled by Sabres' path
Ten years ago this week, in a building that no longer exists, Zemgus Girgensons was a 19-year-old basking in his NHL debut with the Buffalo Sabres. Reminded by reporters after practice Tuesday, Girgensons smiled and said he had seen the anniversary pop up on his Twitter feed the night before. It was Oct. 2, 2013, at Detroit's Joe Louis Arena in a game most remembered as the Red Wings' return to the Eastern Conference.

Connor Clifton, Erik Johnson to make preseason debuts as Sabres announce roster for Columbus trip
Free agent signees Connor Clifton and Erik Johnson will make their preseason debuts for the Buffalo Sabres in Wednesday night's game at Columbus as the team announced its lineup for the penultimate preseason game. In the case of new players like Clifton and Johnson, they can get more reps in the team's system in practice than they can in a game, so Granato has held them out of games until this week.

Will B.C.'s Zach Benson stick with the Buffalo Sabres full-time as an 18-year-old?
Chilliwack's Zach Benson missed a chance to play a WHL game just a short jaunt down the highway from his home but he had a good excuse. The Wenatchee Wild went without Benson, 18, for Sunday's visit to the Langley Events Centre to face the Vancouver Giants because he's still with the Buffalo Sabres. Vancouver won the contest 6-2, led by two goals each from Kyren Gronick and Tyler Thorpe. This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below.

Buffalo Sabres overwhelm Columbus Blue Jackets in third period, notch comeback win
The first 40 minutes went relatively well for the Blue Jackets Saturday in a road preseason matinee against the Buffalo Sabres. Hockey games have at least 60 minutes, though, and the Sabres dominated the final 20 in a 4-3 comeback victory at KeyBank Center. Going 3 for 6 on power plays, including 2 for 2 in the third period, Buffalo overcame a 3-1 deficit on goals by Henri Jokiharju, Jeff Skinner and rookie Zach Benson ― the 13th over pick in this summer's NHL draft.

Observations: Zach Benson, Brandon Biro still competing for spot on Sabres' roster
Brandon Biro's upper lip was still bloody as he spoke with a muffled voice inside the Sabres' dressing room Saturday evening. “I did all I could, so we'll see what happens from here,” Biro said after taking a puck to the face during the Sabres' come-from-behind 4-3 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets in KeyBank Center. Biro wasn't sure how many stitches were used to close the wound that occurred in the first period when he was struck in the face on a shot by his teammate, Dylan Cozens. Biro would have pushed to return to the ice under normal circumstances, but there was a heightened sense of urgency for the 25-year-old in the Sabres' fifth preseason game.

Observations: Ryan Johnson continues strong preseason in Sabres' loss
Facebook Twitter WhatsApp SMS Email Print Copy article link Save Lance Lysowski PITTSBURGH – Ryan Johnson didn't seem to have anywhere to go with the puck. Yet, as Pittsburgh Penguins winger Matt Nieto closed in on the Buffalo Sabres' defenseman, Johnson spun to his right to avoid a hit, then carried the puck toward the net before firing a shot on goalie Tristan Jarry. It was the latest of many exceptional plays that Johnson has made since arriving in Buffalo for rookie camp more than two weeks ago. He seemingly finds a way to make something out of nothing when he has the puck . And though Johnson's latest outstanding performance wasn't enough to help the Sabres defeat a stacked Penguins lineup

Jordan Greenway is healthy again and determined to help the Sabres
Jordan Greenway was ready to forget about last season from the moment it ended in April. Greenway couldn't show with the Minnesota Wild, or in his 17 games with the Buffalo Sabres following a pre-deadline March trade, how he could make an impact as a 6-foot-6 power forward. There were flashes of what Greenway could bring to the Sabres after he was reunited with his former coach at the USA Hockey National Team Development Program, Don Granato, most notably when Greenway scored with one hand on his stick to help Buffalo defeat the New York Rangers.
