Sabres' Salary Cap Space Likely To Be Spent Quickly This Summer
The Buffalo Sabres aren't a big-market team, but a look at the projected amount of salary cap space next season -- via the indispensable Puck Pedia -- has the Sabres smack-dab in the middle of the league's teams, with approximately $21.43-million in cap space for the 2025-26 campaign. And if you break down Buffalo's players who are going to be in need of new contracts, you'll see that the Sabres will be spending much, if not all of their cap space to stay competitive.

The New York Islanders parted ways with GM and team president Lou Lamoriello Tuesday, perhaps putting an end to the 82-year-old icon's Hockey Hall-of-Fame career running NHL teams. But there's always something to learn from brilliant people, even when they're removed from power -- and Lamoriello's legacy could and should be a vital lesson for Sabres GM Kevyn Adams.

Sabres' Playoff Futility Robbing Fans Of Memorable Post-Season Showdowns Against Rivals In Toronto, Ottawa
The Battle of Ontario kicked off Sunday with a 6-2 Toronto Maple Leafs win over the Ottawa Senators. But you know what would’ve been potentially better than that? A first-round Stanley Cup playoffs that included the Buffalo Sabres. The Sabres’ history – which includes 14 consecutive seasons with no playoff hockey – is about as far from ideal as it gets. But there’s a history the Sabres have with Toronto and Ottawa that lives on in the minds and hearts of Buffalo fans, Maple Leafs fans, and Senat

The Ex-Sabre Files: Playoff Status Report - Round 1
The Buffalo Sabres did not qualify for the postseason (again), but a number of their former players are expected to have key roles with their clubs in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, as they have in recent years. After being traded to St. Louis in 2018, Ryan O’Reilly won a Cup and the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2019. Former captains Jack Eichel and Kyle Okposo, defenseman Brandon Montour, and winger Sam Reinhart also won the prize with the Florida Panthers last season.

Three Biggest Disappointments of NHL Season
Every season in the NHL is a difficult grind, just ask players from the Buffalo Sabres, Montreal Canadiens, or New York Rangers. The Rangers and NHL truly believed Lafreniere put it all together last year. To make matters worse, the organization signed him to a lucrative contract extension at the start of the season, only for his offensive numbers to dip to 17 goals and 45 points in 82 games.

Thompson Staying On Olympic Radar, Heading To World Championships
One of the few bright spots of the Buffalo Sabres 2024-25 season has been the resurgence of Tage Thompson. After scoring a career-high 47 goals two years ago, the big forward’s numbers dipped to 29 last season, mostly due to a broken hand blocking a shot. The 27-year-old was considered a longshot to play for Team USA at the NHL 4 Nations Face-Off, but he was added as an injury replacement at the end of the tournament.

Morgan Rielly is often still replaying the game in his mind. The Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman has also developed a routine across 12 seasons grinding against NHL opponents that helps him relax after stepping off the ice and out of the action. “I watch my shifts,” Rielly explained. “When I rewatch the game, it can quiet that inner voice and then I can chill.”
